PHILIPPINE SCHOOL MUSCAT HOSTS ESSAY COMPETITION


"The Philippine School Muscat hosted an essay writing contest for students on Sunday. Organised by the Philippines Embassy with assistance from the Philippine Ladies Group, extracurricular credits will be given to participants and the two best essays awarded.
The theme of the contest is Philippine national hero Dr Jose Rizal. More than a hundred students from both the elementary and secondary levels volunteered to take part in the contest,  which will see one winner chosen from each level. The awards ceremony will be held at the Philippines Embassy on Wednesday.
“The essay writing contest has been organised in line with the celebrations of the birth of Filipino national hero Dr Jose Rizal. We also screened a film about Dr Rizal at the Sentro Rizal from June 19-20 to mark the event,” said Elaine Aldaya, cultural attache at the Philippines Embassy."

"University of the Philippines Diliman student Ferth Vandensteen Manaysay won over other contestants to grab First Place in the College category of the US Pinoys for Good Governance-sponsored essay writing contest on “The West Philippine Sea and Its Impact on the Future of the Philippines”.
Manaysay received P50,000 during the awards presentation held on Tuesday, February 26 at a Makati City hotel as part of the 2nd Global Summit of Filipinos in the Diaspora.

The summit is a three-day event organised by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas under the Office of the Philippine President. (See related reports).
The other winners in the College category are Second Prize – Gervie Kay Estella of the University of Santo Tomas (Manila), and Third Prize – Francis Dave Selorio of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (Iloilo City).
In the High School category, the winners are: First Prize – Hentjie Oliver Tachado of La Salle College (Antipolo), Second Prize – Reena Jenara Biso of Future Generation Philippine International School (Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), and Third Prize – Amihan Krystal De Leon of Colegio San Agustin (Makati City)."
